Orcio 6

Orcio made by Antonio Vanni of Impruneta.

Details

Stamped Antonio Vanni, Impruneta. We can date this as being produced in the 1830s as we have another one in the collection stamped Di Carlo Vanni e Antonio Figlio (son). Carlo was born 1798 and produced at the Vanni kiln from 1820 -1868; Antonio joining in 1834.

This massive Orcio stands at an impressively large120cm high; it has a lovely patina with plenty of natural weathering consistent with its age; most probably used as a vessel to carry wine or oil in its early years and later, as an ornament in the estate gardens. During its long life, part of the rim has come away, but this is not recent and adds more character—a simply stunning orcio that will make a magnificent statement piece.
